STS Approach Study

In 2023 The Charles M. Schulz Sonoma County Airport (STS) hosted two community outreach workshops to provide a comprehensive overview of an Approach Feasibility Study authored by consulting firm Cignus, a transportation management and engineering company.  Cignus was hired to perform an Approach Feasibility Study to understand the current airspace and procedures serving STS, so that they can further study the viability and practicality of developing new procedure(s) or modifying existing ones. The study aims to ensure that the proposed new procedures (if any) meet safety, regulatory, operational, and technical requirements.

On October 2nd and October 3rd, 2024, a second set of community outreach workshops were held to showcase updated plans and allow the public an opportunity to give feedback through formal channels.

The comment period for the 2024 workshops has ended.  Below is a summary of comments received.

  • Number of comments that include concerns about noise exposure: 311
  • Number of comments that include concerns about arriving aircraft and their paths: 81
  • Number of comments that include concerns about departing aircraft and their paths: 70
  • Number of comments that include observations and concerns about overall operations and frequency: 141

UPDATE:

We would like to thank everyone for engaging with the Airport and fellow community members at the Approach Feasibility Outreach Workshops. We appreciate every comment, question, and interaction shared with us. Due to the large number of comments and questions received from both sessions, we anticipate responses from Cignus at the end of December.

Please rest assured we are doing our best to ensure the response are timely and meaningful. We value each of you who participated and are committed to maintaining a positive, responsive environment for everyone. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work through the high volume.  In the meantime, we encourage you to explore the resources posted on this site or view the videos of the sessions, as well as a walkthrough video of the workshop materials.
